Onion Epidermis

Onion epidermis is probably the most iconic microscopy specimen for starters. The main reason for the popularity of the onion epidermis is related to the convenience of sample preparation. Onions are easy to find and even easier to dissect and get a specimen of the epidermis. The cells of the epidermis are particularly large in size which makes it easy to view under microscopes with low magnifications. In addition, the nuclei of the epidermis cells are also clearly visible without any further treatment of the specimens. The specimen presented here is dyed with coloring to emphasize the features.
